Cherilyn Chin is a marine biologist who has worked at public aquariums including the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. She has held a three-day-old sea otter pup in the palm of her hand, cuddled with a one-week-old penguin chick, and received a painting from a giant pacific octopus.

Cherilyn has a whale shark and manta ray named after her. She has an award-winning ocean conservation blog, Ocean of Hope. Cherilyn is a freelance science journalist as well as award-winning children’s book author. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, with her children, a cat, and a 100-gallon saltwater tank with a cranky old angelfish.
