Everyone's yelling! No one is listening! If you've watched television lately, you know how true this is. I am a Listening Student. My 'education' began over 12 years ago as I stepped into the classroom at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. As an adult learner, I just finished my AA degree in record time and was moving full steam ahead to earn a BA. A The first course I took one summer to earn my undergrad degree was on Listening. How difficult might that be? Pretty easy course to start out with before registering in the Fall. How wrong I was! The course professor was Dr. Rick Bommelje. Listening Student meets Listening Seeker. Nothing about the course was easy -- but every second was life-changing and astoundingly impactful. When our paths crossed, little did we know what God had in store for us that ultimately led to "Be Quick to Listen." That was 2005. Three years later Rick and I reconnected, collaborated on a project that shared Listening from a Christian perspective and then put the project aside. In 2016 we devoted ourselves to complete the journey started 10 years earlier. We are both passionate about listening and the role it plays in life and faith. Our goal was to emphasize that listening wisdom must permeate every fiber of our being. Brooks, pastor of the church I belong to - Grace Lutheran in Durham, NC. The book was written as a way to communicate to a congregation how to walk daily by G-growing as followers of Jesus; R-rejoicing in God; A-Answering with hope; C-caring for our neighbors and E-embracing community.
