Diann "D.T." Read's 23-year career in the U.S. Air Force, which included tours of duty in the Republic of Korea, Bosnia, and Iraq, became "live in" research for her books and indelibly influenced the stories she tells. She learned her craft from such mentors as Orson Scott Card, C.J. Cherryh, Elizabeth Moon, and David Farland. The Sergey Chronicles trilogy, written as Diann Thornley Read, tells the story of a military family caught at the center of politics during an interstellar war, while the Seventh Shaman series follows a young man from a shamanic society who must battle the grim demands of his culture as well as an interstellar threat.
