For over thirty-five years I have been doing something I love: travelling to more than one hundred cultures, working with the world's leading organisations, and learning, often the hard way, that the difference between a successful global business relationship and a failed one almost always comes down to culture. My latest book, Business Beyond Borders: Stories, Tales and Lessons Learned from Working in 100 Cultures Around the World, is the book I was always meant to write. Winner of the Goody Business Book Award, Bronze Medalist at the Axiom Business Book Awards, and longlisted for the Non-Obvious Book Awards, it brings together the real stories from three decades on the road, the ones I have been telling at conferences and in boardrooms for years, and turns them into lessons that anyone working globally can use immediately. I am the founder of DFA Intercultural Global Solutions and the founder and former Worldwide Director of Berlitz Cross-Cultural. I have worked with most major Fortune 500 companies, national governments, and NGOs including the United Nations, and have served as guest faculty at Harvard Business School, Columbia University, NYU, Fordham, and Darden Business School. I've been a contributing editor to National Geographic Traveler, a CNN commentator, and currently am the host of my podcast, "Oops, Your Culture's Showing!" In 2012 I was inducted into Worldwide ERC's Hall of Leaders, and in 2013 I received the Forum for Expatriate Management's Lifetime Achievement Award. I believe that cultural differences are not challenges to be overcome but gifts of possibility. Business Beyond Borders is my attempt to share that belief, and the stories that convinced me of it, with everyone who works, leads, or simply lives in the world we share.
