For over a decade, Derrick desired to write his first book, but could never find the time. In the summer of 2019, after a freakish accident where he broke his leg in two places, fate forced him to be bedridden for weeks, which enabled him the opportunity to finally write his first romance novel in a book series titled, "The Secret Whispers of Reeds." As a screenplay writer and filmmaker for over 16 years, he quickly merged his love to convey an epic story on the big screen into prose within a book format. He discovered writing a novel enabled him the opportunity to add more character depth, story arcs, inciting conflict, exposition, and engaging action sequences than he ever could while writing a traditional full-length movie screenplay. When Derrick is not spending time with his loving wife of 20-years and two beautiful daughters, he could be found vlogging, traveling, and developing the next big story idea. Book Two for the Secret Whispers of Reeds shall be released in the Fall of 2020.
