Dick Snyder: b. Taft, California, 1937; Taft Union High School, 1955; PhD (History), 1966, University of Colorado. Emeritus Professor of History, Department of History, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (1966-2001). Member, Taft Union High School Hall of Fame (2017). Writer of mystery fiction featuring Jonas Kirk. A decade after retirement, he began writing loosely constructed autobiographical stories, concentrating on early memories of his youth in Taft, A Family’s Passage, (Amazon, 2011). He followed that with a more fully developed collection of short stories, Boomerang: Short Stories in a Fictional Life (AuthorHouse, 2015), recognized by TopShelf as a notable work in fiction. Subsequently, He has published 15 episodes in a series of Jonas Kirk mysteries (Amazon) followed by Jonas Kirk Mysteries: The Collection (AuthorHouse, 2017), a Finalist in Top Shelf competition for mystery fiction. Last year he released BINGO. (See Summer, 2019 Top Shelf, Center Fold). Now, in Pumpkin Fest, Jonas Kirk mixes a renewed relationship with Sharon Cunningham with plans to celebrate harvest season and remember Gary Munson, a local icon lost in a tragic fire. Recruiting Munson’s childhood friends to help celebrate his life leads Kirk into uncomfortable insights about the death of his parents in a decade old accident. Worse, it makes him a target for a killer, a role he has never played before. Startlingly benign, lacking energy, he struggles to make sense of death as it visits Munson’s friends and whispers alluringly into his ear. Danger. Revelations. Solutions.
