John “Divine G” Whitfield is the real live person Colman Domingo plays in the movie Sing Sing. He is also the founder/owner of Divine G Entertainment. His published works include eight (8) novels, an assortment of short stories, several plays, three (3) audiobooks, and he produced, directed and starred in his debut short film production entitled Enigma of Love. He is also a prolific screenplay writer with thirteen (13) completed screenplays. He won four PEN American Center Awards and the 2008 Tacenda Literary Award for best play. Divine G was also quoted by the United Nations in its UN Report of the Special Rapporteur on the right of education of persons in detention (A/HRC/11/8, pg. 6, ¶ 11 - 2 April 2009). In addition, Divine G has acted in countless plays, appeared in a Hollywood feature film as an extra, hosted his own internet radio show (The Divine G Show), worked with Lil Wayne as a supervisory carpenter on his 2013 (AMW) America’s Most Wanted Tour, appears in the movie Sing Sing as a Book Fan asking himself (Divine G played by Colman Domingo) for an autograph of his novel Money Grip, and was an Executive Producer on this film.
