Donald E. Patterson is a retired SWAT commander, FBI National Academy graduate, and nationally recognized emergency management instructor. Across a thirty-year law enforcement career, he led tactical operations during mass shootings, wildfires, and high-risk manhunts, building firsthand experience in crisis leadership and real-world strategy.

After retiring from law enforcement, he spent a decade training emergency response leaders through FEMA's National Emergency Management Advanced Academy. That command background — field operations, intelligence coordination, and crisis response — runs through every page he writes.

Patterson is the author of the Matt Scales Thriller series, which began with Bear in the Dragon's Shadow and continues with Controlled Drift.
