After a 30-year career in pharmaceutical marketing, Doug Bierl turned his attention towards helping to build, restore, and strengthen healthy marriages through professional coaching, training, and writing. Doug married during college and had four children within seven years. He poured most of his time and energy into advancing in his education and career, largely at the expense of his marriage and family. He didn’t invest time in his marriage relationship and drifted apart from his wife. So, fifteen years into the marriage, he decided to end it, not wanting to address the underlying reasons, or do the work needed to restore the marriage. A year after his divorce, Doug met Julaine, whom he married six months later. She was divorced, with two children and so Doug and Julaine blended a family of six children between the ages of 5 and 16. Through the years they experienced many ups and downs. Although all of the children found their way to be productive adults, their journeys were not without a significant amount of pain along the way. Doug and Julaine are happily married and they have learned a lot from their experience, including the importance of investing in the health of their marriage, even and especially when things are going well. They are intentional about focusing on their marriage and making it a priority in their life. Doug and Julaine now use their experience and approaches they’ve been trained and certified in, to work as “Marriage Navigators” to journey with engaged and married couples to help navigate the ups and downs of marriage. They do this through Reclaiming Wholeness LLC, based in Westerville, Ohio.
