Edward Achorn, a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Commentary, is the author of five acclaimed books about American history — most recently, the gripping "Lincoln Alone: The Harrowing Four Months that Led to Civil War but Saved the Nation."

His book "The Lincoln Miracle: Inside the Republican Convention That Changed History" won a slew of awards, including the Lincoln Forum Book Prize, the Lincoln Institute Book Prize, the Lincoln Group of New York’s Award of Achievement, and the Julia Ward Howe Award. His "Every Drop of Blood: The Momentous Second Inauguration of Abraham Lincoln" was named one of the Best Books of 2020 by the Economist magazine and is an Amazon Editors’ choice for Best History.

He is also the author of the classic baseball history books "The Summer of Beer and Whiskey," which was named an Amazon Best Book of the Year (History), and "Fifty-nine in ’84," which the Economist selected as one of Six Great Books About Baseball and the New York Times cited as one of Five Books to Celebrate Baseball’s Return. He also wrote one of the essays by leading Lincoln scholars for the book "Why Lincoln: Preserving an American Legacy."

A journalist for 41 years, Achorn is the former Vice President and Editorial Pages Editor of The Providence Journal. Among his numerous journalism awards, he won the Yankee Quill Award for distinguished lifetime service to journalism.

Achorn has appeared throughout the country speaking about Abraham Lincoln and the bruising, gritty world of nineteenth century baseball. He has appeared repeatedly on C-Span and NPR. His work has been covered in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Time magazine.
