Gary Swoboda's book, HUNGRY TIGERS, is a forthright look at the epidemic problem of addiction, told through the author's decades-long struggle with drugs and alcohol and his candid look at the depression and anxieties that mired him in self-medication. Sadly, his story includes the loss of two beloved stepsons, both addiction-related, as well as the heroin overdose death of a life-long friend just hours before the author checked himself into rehab in March of 1999. Having been clean and sober since, the author gives a candid look at recovery as well, a cogent testimony that has prompted readers to cite this work as both timely and timeless. Reviews echo the words "compelling" and "inspiring" as well as enthusiastically laud the humor with which this often-devastating story has been interlaced. The author has been involved with volunteer treatment programs in hospitals and prisons for years, sharing his experience and hope regarding recovery from addiction.
