Giles Blunt was born in the Hotel Dieu hospital in Windsor, Ontario, but they must have offended him somehow (easily done) because he left the next morning. He grew up till the age of ten in Amherstburg, Ont., where he played piano (reluctantly) and hockey (abysmally). He then moved to North Bay, Ontario, for the sole purpose of learning Latin and becoming an altar boy--his introduction to the power and the glory of theatricals. After attending the University of Toronto, he moved to England to write his first novel, which was positively heaving with commas. Next came New York City, where he spent more than twenty years, obtaining a diploma from the International Bartenders School. He now lives in Toronto with his wife and two disgruntled cats. He is the author of six crime novels set in the fictional city of Algonquin Bay, featuring John Cardinal and Lise Delorme. The books have been adapted for television, and Cardinal, the TV series, debuted on CTV on January 25, 2017. It has now aired in more than 100 countries. Blunt's other novels include Cold Eye (psychological suspense), No Such Creature (a picaresque "road novel" and coming of age story), Breaking Lorca (political thriller set in El Salvador and New York), and the Hesitation Cut (a dark tale of romantic obsession). He has also published a collection of poems called Vanishing Act. When not at work at his desk in the Toronto Writers' Centre--or shovelling snow--he plays guitar and keyboard and even croaks a tune or two with an intermittent group called Quango. By popular demand, they have never appeared in public.
