Gordon Lafer is a political economist and teaches at the University of Oregon's Labor Education and Research Center. He is also a Research Associate with the Economic Policy Institute in Washington, DC, and a member of the Scholars Advisory Board of In The Public Interest, the country's premier think tank focused on the privatization of public services. Over the past three decades, Lafer has advised a wide variety of workers' organizations - including labor unions at Yale University, hotel workers in Hawai'i, construction workers in Las Vegas, dock workers in New Jersey, Oregon nurses, and California school teachers. He worked as an economic policy analyst for the New York City Mayor's office, and in 2009-10 he served as Senior Policy Advisor for the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Education and Labor. He's been called to testify as an expert witness before the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, and numerous state legislatures.
