Grant Overstake is a Kansas author and journalist. He was raised on the racial dividing line in segregated Wichita during the civil rights era, and when a Black family moved in next door, his own family joined the white flight. The question that decision left him with, what if they had stayed, became the novel The Real Education of TJ Crowley.

He began writing at eighteen as a part-time reporter for The Wichita Eagle, earned a scholarship to the University of Kansas School of Journalism, won a William Randolph Hearst Award for a sports feature in The Daily Kansan, and went on to The Miami Herald. He was an All-American in track and field.

The Real Education of TJ Crowley was named Book of the Year for 2019 by the Kansas Authors Club and selected for the Wichita Public Library's citywide Candid Conversations Book Club. Its full-cast audio adaptation, co-authored with producer and director May Wuthrich, won the 2025 Audie Award for Best Young Adult Audiobook, the Independent Publisher Book Award for Best Audiobook, and an AudioFile Earphones Award.

He is also the author of Maggie Vaults Over the Moon, named by CITIUS Mag one of the best track and field novels of all time. He and his wife, Claire, sing with the ARISE Ensemble, whose music appears in the audio drama.
