I've made every communication mistake possible. Bad bookends, wrong tone, passive words - you name it. Heck, in front of 500 people at a grand opening, I compared our All-Star salesperson to Basketball's Michael Jordan. Instead, I said he was like singer Michael Jackson! Yee-e-e. Ugh!

Currently, I own a company with 1,100 employees averaging 30,000 conversations every DAY. So, we micromanage soft skills - when to say your name; asking positive questions; minimizing drama. Lots of good examples, every day.

My wife and I have a non-profit called ApSeed providing free eReaders to very young children in poverty. Over 30,000 ApSeed Touchpads so far with great results, so far. Ask me about the grandmother story. I learned about reading skills from someone who couldn't read.

This book shares what I've learned from observing and dissecting conversations. It's an EASY read. Mostly personal stories with learned principles. I grew up and live in Salisbury, NC. I've traveled worldwide and like it here, just fine. Graduated from Catawba College, M.B.A. from UNC-Charlotte. I pattern my "wanna be" writing style after folks like Seth Godin and Malcolm Gladwell.

I also produced a "Mastering Soft Skills" online certification program. It's called "Say This, Not That....most of the time". This program is endorsed by the Asso. of Government Contact Center Professionals and the Society of Human Resource Managers. Coming soon will be a book featuring my Hierarchy of Empathy. Yes, I've learned that one the hard way, too.
