Grumpus Maximus (GM) is a retired U.S. military officer, husband, father, blogger and first-time author. He started The Golden Albatross blog at grumpusmaximus.com in 2017 to share both the positive and negative experiences from his decision to "gut it out" for his military pension. GM's honesty and dry humor quickly earned him a reputation as a talented storyteller with the knack for turning even the most boring topic into something exciting. Although he now covers many personal finance topics, GM concentrates on issues like deciding to stay or leave a pensionable job. He also writes about how to incorporate a pension into Financial Independence (FI) plans, and the impact of pensionable careers and financial mistakes on mental health. To date, GM remains the only FI blogger and author to concentrate on pensions. His body of work has helped hundreds of workers in pensionable careers plan for retirement. "The Golden Albatross: How To Determine If Your Pension Is Worth It" is GM's first book. It represents the culmination of two years' worth of research into the features that make some pensions more valuable than others.
