Jacalyn Duffin, M.D. (Toronto 1974), FRCP(C) (1979), Ph.D. (Sorbonne 1985), is Professor Emerita of Queen’s University in Kingston where she held the Hannah Chair of the History of Medicine from 1988 to 2017. A hematologist, historian, mother, and grandmother, she has served as President of both the American Association for the History of Medicine and the Canadian Society for the History of Medicine. She holds several awards and honours for research, writing, service, and teaching. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and is a member of the Order of Canada. Duffin is the author of nine books, editor of two, and has published more than 100 research articles. Her book Medical Miracles (Oxford UP, 2009) is an analysis of the medical aspects of canonization. It was awarded the Hannah Medal of the RSC in November 2009. Her History of Medicine a Scandalously Short Introduction (U Toronto Press) has been translated into Korean, Chinese, and Spanish; its third edition appeared in 2021.
