James T. Johnson III, EA, MS, is an author, Enrolled Agent tax professional, entrepreneur, and advocate for preserving family wealth, property, and legacy across generations.

Long before James began helping taxpayers navigate complicated financial and tax matters, he learned some of life's most enduring lessons in a very different arena—the boxing ring.

A former professional boxer and middleweight kickboxing champion, James credits his years as a competitive fighter with helping shape the discipline, preparation, resilience, and determination he later brought to his professional career and writing. Boxing taught him that difficult challenges are rarely overcome with a single dramatic move. Success comes from preparation, understanding the opponent in front of you, adjusting your strategy, staying disciplined, and continuing to move forward when circumstances become difficult.

Those lessons have followed him throughout his life.

As an Enrolled Agent, James works in the areas of tax planning, tax resolution, and tax preparation. His professional experience has given him a close view of how taxes, business decisions, estate planning, recordkeeping, and financial choices can affect what individuals and families are ultimately able to preserve and pass to the next generation.

That combination of professional experience and personal history helped shape Saving the Family Land.

The book was inspired by James's own family's efforts to preserve land that has remained connected to the family for generations. What began as an effort to understand family ownership developed into a much larger journey involving heirs' property, deeds, title research, family history, legal planning, family governance, property expenses, trusts, and the difficult question of how inherited land can be made financially sustainable for generations yet to come.

James approaches these subjects much as he once approached competition: understand the problem, develop a strategy, assemble the right team, and keep working until meaningful progress is made.

In Saving the Family Land, he shares lessons drawn from his family's experience while addressing issues that affect families far beyond his own. The book explores the importance of documenting family history, resolving ownership questions, communicating across generations, working with qualified professionals, developing sustainable uses for inherited property, and preparing younger family members to become responsible stewards.

For James, generational wealth is about more than accumulating money. It is about preserving opportunity. Land, businesses, education, financial knowledge, family history, and sound decision-making can all become part of an inheritance when families intentionally prepare for the future.

His background as a fighter also influences the way he connects with readers. James believes complicated subjects do not have to be intimidating. Whether discussing taxes, family property, or legacy planning, his goal is to translate complex issues into understandable ideas and practical steps that encourage people to take action rather than remain overwhelmed by the problem.

At the heart of his writing is a principle that connects the different chapters of his life: what matters is not simply what you inherit, but what you protect, improve, and prepare to pass forward.

Through his books and professional work, James encourages readers to approach their financial and family legacies with discipline, preparation, perseverance, and a long-term plan—the same qualities that carried him from the boxing ring into his career as a tax professional and author.
