"After years of bouncing from restaurant job to restaurant job, I finally decided to open my own coffee shop called Sacred Grounds." Sacred Grounds was pre-Starbucks which meant he was making it up as he went along. Sacred Grounds was more of a university than any education system could have been. I learned so much about what to do but importantly what not to do. Once he had learned more than he wanted, he decided to take his experience and work with the poor. If Sacred Grounds was his university, working on the streets with the poor was his Ph.D. program. "The insights I gained and the places I went taught me things about myself that I certainly would have never learned in any college program no matter where I went." After that experience had taken all that he could give, he landed a job with Delta Airlines as a flight attendant to recover from the 20 years he had spent with the poor. "The recovery process was far longer than I could have planned but thanks to Covid-19 I was launched into my writing and coaching career with a unique vantage point." "All of those experiences coupled with my southern heritage have given my writing a flavor and texture you wouldn't necessarily find in your run of the mill stories".
