Jeremy Beer is the author or editor of eight books, including Beyond the Devil's Road: Francisco Garces and the Spanish Encounter with the American Southwest, which will be published by Oklahoma University Press in September 2004. Jeremy's previous books include the award-winning Oscar Charleston: The Life and Legend of Baseball’s Greatest Forgotten Player (University of Nebraska Press, 2019) and The Philanthropic Revolution: An Alternative History of American Charity (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2015). He is the editor of America Moved: Booth Tarkington’s Memoirs of Time and Place, 1869–1928 (Wipf and Stock, 2015), and of Agnes Repplier's Junipero Serra: Pioneer, Missionary, Saint (Cluny, 2020). He also coedited American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia (ISI Books, 2006). Jeremy is the co-founder and CEO at AmPhil, a national firm that provides professional services to mission-driven enterprises. It is with that hat on that he has written practical works on fundraising, including The Quest for Belonging: How the Most Effective Nonprofit Leaders Understand the Psychology of Giving (Post Hill, 2024) and, with Jeff Cain, The Forgotten Foundations of Fundraising: Practical Advice and Contrarian Wisdom for Nonprofit Leaders (Wiley, 2019). Jeremy has published on history, politics, sports, and culture in outlets such as the Washington Post, National Review, the Washington Examiner, First Things, Modern Age, the Utne Reader, and Baseball Research Journal, among other venues. A proud native of Milford, Indiana, Jeremy did his undergraduate work at Indiana University before going on to obtain his doctorate in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He now lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with his wife, Kara.
