Hello from Kansas. Here I am, right in the middle of things. I am a retired English teacher: twenty years at Emporia High School. I have always been a writer in my spare time, but have recently decided to take the dive into publishing. "Raccoons in the Corn" my story for children, began two years ago when hubby and I got up early to tackle harvesting the sweet corn we had been pampering. Surprise...the local raccoons had beaten us to it. The patch was totaled: the only kernel left was the idea for this little book. In addition to writing, I love gardening. I'm also addicted to primitive antiques, auctions, yard sales, and junk stores. When we visited the mock-up of Abe Lincoln's boyhood cabin at the museum in Springfield, IL, I felt right at home; it was full of my stuff! Emporia hugs an area of tallgrass prairie called the Flint Hills. Here hills roll and grass abounds, the best grass on the planet for fattening cattle. If you love space, sky, wild flowers, birds, and wildlife, you would be lifted by this place. I love to travel, but the best part of travel for me is coming home. I try to flavor my stories with what I see beyond the pasture gate. If you enjoy my raccoon tale, watch for what's coming next. I am redoing a colorbook for kids I published locally for a Kansas gifts package for tourists back in the early 80s. It should be ready by spring. A bigger project is also in the works featuring a trio of magical races of creatures that live on the prairie: Wispers, Grones, and Ponders. The pipeline is full of other ideas; production of these to be fueled by success of the beginners. I have my fingers crossed.
