After graduating from Drake University in 1971 with a BA in Journalism and a minor in Philosophy & Religion, Jim Altfeld went on to hone his writing skills throughout the course of his career. He has shared his knowledge through numerous publications, the most notable of which is The Owner’s Manual, a comprehensive handbook that he wrote for owners of small and mid-sized companies. Now retired, Jim fulfilled the promise he made to his friend, the late Bill Ott, to complete and publish White’s Tavern, a project that began in 1973. Among Jim’s other interests lies thoroughbred horse racing. Having interviewed more than 20 retired Hall of Fame Jockeys with more interviews scheduled, Jim is in the throes of writing a new book entitled The Last 70 Yards: What Made the Greatest Great.
