I am a Jesuit-educated writer and editor who discovered the profound wisdom of Ignatian spirituality around the turn of the century. This personal awakening has become my professional passion. I have written books about the Examen (A Simple Life-Changing Prayer), discernment (What Do You Really Want?), the Spiritual Exercises (God Finds Us), decision making (What's Your Decision?), and, most recently, a book on the whole subject (Ignatian Spirituality A to Z). I’ve also compiled two books of readings from the Ignatian tradition: The Ignatian Book of Days and Charged with Grandeur. I did much of this writing while working as a senior editor at Loyola Press. There I was the founding editor of IgnatianSpirituality.com, and I worked with many of the great contemporary writers in the Ignatian tradition, including William Barry, S.J., Chris Lowney, and James Martin, S.J. Before coming to Loyola Press I was a newspaper reporter, corporate communicator, technical writer, magazine editor, and a book editor for several Catholic publishers. Today, in addition to writing and speaking about Ignatian spirituality, I do a lot of volunteer tutoring in basic literacy and ESL. My wife Susan and I have four adult children and live in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
