Joe Gulla is a New York City-based playwright, actor, and author whose work explores identity, love, and resilience. His award-winning plays—including THE BRONX QUEEN, GARBO, SLEEPING WITH THE FISH, MEMBERS ONLY, MY DARLING LOVE, and FALL AND RISE—have been produced across the United States, Canada, and Italy. As a performer, Joe regularly appears at legendary NYC venues including 54 Below, Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, and Theatre Row, where he's known for his distinctive raspy voice and intimate storytelling style. After spending seven years as primary caregiver for his mother during her battle with Alzheimer's disease and hospice stay, Joe channeled that experience into his debut memoir, Last August. The book chronicles his journey through caregiving, anticipatory grief, and loss with honesty, humor, and hard-won wisdom. A native New Yorker with six years spent living in Rome, Joe brings a unique perspective to stories about love, loss, and what it means to show up for the people we care about—even when everything else is falling apart.
