John Pearce is a former journalist whose work in Europe sparked a lifelong fascination with Cold War espionage and the long shadow it cast over postwar politics, intelligence services, and personal loyalties. Reporting from Germany and elsewhere on the continent, he developed a particular interest in the quiet, high-stakes struggle between the democratic West and the authoritarian systems that survived the collapse of the Soviet Union.

A part-time resident of Paris, Pearce has been drawn to the city since his years writing for the International Herald Tribune. Paris—its history, beauty, and buried secrets—became the natural setting for his thriller fiction.

His Eddie Grant series centers on an American expatriate with deep military and intelligence ties, navigating modern Paris while haunted by the legacies of war, espionage, and unfinished business. Pearce brings to the series a journalist’s eye for detail, a historian’s sense of continuity, and a storyteller’s instinct for tension and moral ambiguity.

He divides his time between Paris and Washington, D.C.
