Historian, writer, and broadcaster, Jon has an honours degree in History and has written extensively, although not exclusively, on the Second World War, specialising in the fighting on the Eastern Front and non-Germans who served in the Waffen-SS. The majority of his work is based on in-depth interviews with veterans of all stripes and informed by a deep understanding of warfare. His research has taken him all over Europe, although he confesses that one of the highlights of his writing career so far has been finding and interviewing veterans on his own doorstep back in the UK! His books have been published in multiple languages, including; Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Danish, Polish, French, Czech and Dutch, and his book "Death on the Don" was nominated for the 2014 Pushkin Prize for History. A regular expert contributor to all aspects of media, he regularly writes for a range of magazines including History of War, All About History, The Armourer and Iron Cross. He also often features on radio; BBC Radio 4, Talk Radio, Newstalk, RTE, and in a large number of podcasts, such as ww2podcast.com, History Hack and History Hit. Jon has also recently appeared in the TV series; "WW2 Frontlines" and "Battle Honours." Away from writing he is a passionate rugby supporter, endurance runner and family man. He currently lives on Mersea island, just off the Essex coast.
