When we did the research for Real Leaders for the Real World, we didn't expect the results to be so compelling, our aim was to study leaders who were operating in the real world, experiencing real world problems and develop a practical how to book for people who are serious about becoming a great leader, but are a bit fed up with hearing constantly about the great business leaders like Branson and Jobs. These people are exceptional and undoubtedly have something to teach us, but we don't all want to be them. We discovered that the leaders in our study, profiled pretty much exactly as the general population would profile in psychometric tests. In other words, there was no profile of leadership which was better than any other. This is great news because it means that it is possible for anyone to improve their leadership abilities without a personality transplant. The study did find though, that there was a strong theme in terms of key characteristics that good leaders had developed or were working on. Using our business and psychological knowledge and experience we set about developing a handbook for people to develop those traits, whilst being true to themselves. The feedback from the first book was 'more on time management please..' hence Time Mastery. It's clear that time management tools don't work for everyone and despite having so many labour saving devices we are more time poor than ever. How we 'do' time is unique to each of us so, int he new book, we want to help people to find their own rhythm and make small changes to how they use their time, that make a big difference in their life and work. I had great fun developing and writing these books and working with so many fabulous people to test out the strategies and get their feedback. We hope you enjoy it and most importantly find it useful.
