Writer, artist, and life/ career coach, Argentinian dancer and equestrian Karma Kitaj, PhD, had always been a voracious reader, since her days at Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo, Ohio, when she joined the Great Books class. Her mother was a high school English teacher and grilled her in grammar and Latin, so she could compete in the State Scholarship exams, where she placed high (was it 1 or 2?). But only in middle age did she begin to be a writer as well. Her first book, published in 2002, called Women Who Coul d... and Did, was based on interviews with 26 high-achieving women in the arts and sciences. Karma was curious about how older women who grew up before the women's lib movement of the 1970s explained their career success, despite cultural and family obstacles. Being a Research Scholar at Wellesley College's Stone Center helped her access a group of like-minded women to help her with this research. After she and her husband Jeff Cooper discovered the joys of horseback riding, Karma went all over the US to interview top-level equestriennes, and published a book about them in 2010, called Women Riders Who Could... and Did. Believing she had a fiction book in her, she wrote BEGUILED: a Novel, published by Koehler Books on 5/1/2018. Karma found she loved fiction writing best and especially the research of this period piece about the early 1900s. See www.KarmaKitaj.comKarma is writing the sequel to BEGUILED now.
