Kathleen Whyman is an author, journalist, exhausted mum and Espresso Martini fan. These may be linked. Kathleen’s books are humorous women’s fiction, inspired by her own feeble attempt to juggle a career with childcare, never-ending housework, laundry, life admin and, outrageously, a bit of time for herself. She is still struggling. (Any tips on how to cope would be much appreciated.) Kathleen’s latest novel Would You Ask My Husband That? came out August 2023 and became a bestseller in: British and Irish Humour and Satire; Dark Humour; Parenting; Motherhood; and Fatherhood. In Would You Ask My Husband That?, married couple Sarah and Will's lives are turned upside down when he loses his job and she gets promoted. Now Will’s the stay-at-home dad and Sarah’s the high-flying, breadwinner. The role-reversal creates guilt, tension, resentment, soul-searching, double standards and, just for the fun of it, a bit more guilt. They’re both driven to wondering what’s worth more – the marriage or the job? Kathleen’s debut novel Wife Support System – about three mums moving in together to help each other out – was shortlisted for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s Joan Hessayon Award 2020 and the Romance Comedy Novel of the Year 2021. Her novel Has Anyone Seen My Husband? – a wonderfully witty look at managing ex-partners and blended families – was shortlisted for the Comedy Women in Print prize in the unpublished comic novel category. It will be out July 2024. Kathleen lives in Hertfordshire with her husband and two teenage daughters. There’s a lot of door slamming.
