Kim Cross is a New York Times best-selling author, journalist, and historian known for cinematic scenes, page-turning narratives, and character-driven stories that explore a complex, highly nuanced issue. Kim’s first book, What Stands in a Storm, won the Fitzgerald Museum Literary Prize for Excellence in Writing and the American Society of Journalists and Authors nonfiction book award. A Barnes & Noble Discover pick, it was named one of Amazon’s Best Books of 2015 and was a finalist in the GoodReads Choice Awards. It was selected by two community-wide reading programs and is taught in high schools or colleges in five states. Her latest book, In Light of All Darkness, embeds readers in one of the most famous true-crime stories of our generation—the kidnapping of Polly Klaas—a case as pivotal in the history of the FBI as the Unabomber or Oklahoma City Bombing. A finalist for the Edgar Award in Fact Crime, the book was awarded the Truman Capote Prize for Literary Non-Fiction and featured in a two-hour documentary on 20/20. Kim’s features have been recognized by the New York Times, the Columbia Journalism Review, Apple News Audio, and Best American Sports Writing. She teaches for Harvard Extension School’s graduate journalism program workshops for the Sawtooth Writing Retreat in Idaho and the Larry McMurtry Literary Center in Texas.
