Lori Frisher is a leader, advocate, entrepreneur, athlete, survivor, and public speaker who dares to dream beyond present circumstances to what is possible. Born with severe hearing loss, she spent 30-plus years relying on hearing aids and competed at the varsity level in sports, although she was unable to hear any audible signals. At the University of Hartford, she earned a spot on the Division 1 tennis team as a walk-on, along with both academic and athletic scholarships. Lori continued to excel beyond her disability, along with overcoming Stage 3 cancer three times, and today, she is battling Stage 4. In 2010, a groundbreaking new technology opened the world of sound for Lori. The first FDA-approved fully implantable hearing device alleviated Lori’s sensorineural hearing loss. For the first time, she was able to hear the sounds the rest of the world takes for granted. She was gifted this device for ten years, and is now deaf, wearing two cochlear implants. In late 2021, she founded Ready or Not! Media, a disability awareness strategy firm. “Ready or not?” is a question she is asking all of us. Are you ready to learn more about people with disabilities? Are you ready to rise above the discomfort and become comfortable with the disability community? She is more than ready. She has been preparing for this moment her entire life: to share her commitment and passion, to dismantle stereotypes, and to include people of ALL abilities in the fabric of our workforce and communities. She continues to break barriers despite the battles, and she always leads with heart and passion in everything she does.
