Growing up in Scotland, Louis was impacted by the wild land and the myths that surround it. This curiosity culminated in a trip to northern Mongolia, aged 18, in search of the Tsaatan tribe. It was on this trek that he first encountered the connecting powers of the horse. On his return he then embarked upon a 1,147-mile ride down the length of the UK, on a Highland pony called Irelanda. The solo trip laid the foundation for The Big Hoof: a Scottish registered outdoor mental health charity that creates long distance rides. Most recently, Louis journeyed 110 days across Europe on an Arabian horse called Sasha, creating the first conclusive horse-trail across the Ligurian Alps in recorded history. Diaries of the ride are being released as his first narrative non-fiction book, in March 2025 with Duckworth Books, 'In Green.' Louis is currently studying Creative Writing at the University of Oxford.
