Mark Whitaker is an author, Emmy Award-winning Contributing Correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning, and juror for the prestigious Peabody Awards. Formerly, he was the Managing Editor of CNN, Washington bureau chief for NBC News, and reporter and editor at Newsweek magazine, where he rose to become the first African-American to lead a national newsweekly. His books include "My Long Trip Home: A Family Memoir," a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; "Smoketown: The Untold Story of the Other Great Black Renaissance," a history of the influence of Black Pittsburgh in the mid-twentieth century; and "Saying It Loud: 1966-The Year Black Power Challenged the Civil Rights Movement." Whitaker lives in New York City and Woodstock, NY, and his hobbies include cooking, playing golf, and listening to jazz.
