Author Marlys Beider was born and raised in Hannover, Germany. When she was 21 years old, she came to the U.S. to visit family friends living in Chicago. Her affinity for the “new world” prompted her to apply for a student visa and transfer her college credits, changing her major from art history to journalism. Less than two years into her studies, she met her future husband, and the rest was history.

Growing up, Beider had a passion for creative writing and often received recognition in school for her stories. As an adult, she found herself spinning stories in her head during nature hikes. One story kept growing; she imagined the characters coming to life, as if in a feature film. When she shared her ideas with a friend who is a writer, that friend encouraged Beider to move the story from her head onto paper. Soon she was hooked on the process, staying up nights researching and writing, resulting in her first novel, “Fateful Parallels.” Soon after, she wrote “Continuum,” “I Am Here” and “Molly’s Milestone” in 2024. Beider’s novels are inspired by her observations of the world and life around her.

In addition to writing, Beider has a passion for the arts and supports music and other cultural organizations in Chicago. Beider and her late husband have four adult children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
