Michael Lieberman is a poet, fiction writer, and former research physician and the author of seven previous works of fiction. After publishing a book of poems last year—“Giving Death the Old Soft Shoe”—I have returned to the novel, well almost. I have just released “Anvil Hopewell.” I say "almost" because the protagonist, Hopewell, is a poet and he’s in trouble. (Most are, in one way or another.) So Anvil Hopewell and his travails have arrived. His problems are part bad luck, part bad judgment, and part bad people. There’s not much more to say, other than that, like the rest of us, he’s living a life. That's what good stories are about: getting to know characters and, for a time, being present in their world, and sometimes feeling as if you're living their lives with them. My wife and I live in San Diego. We enjoy spending time together with family and friends, reading, exercise, music, plays, and movies. .
