Some people follow a straight path. Mike Neubauer follows curiosity. It began with photography—studying light, waiting, watching, wondering. Why does one moment feel magical and the next forgettable? That question led him across continents, from wind-whipped cliffs in Iceland to the stillness of pre-dawn Indonesia. His work earned global recognition, appeared on magazine covers, and won top honors in prestigious photography competitions. He was later awarded an honorary Master of Photography degree by the Professional Photographers of America—an acknowledgment not just of talent, but of relentless craft. Then came firefighting—a career grounded in adrenaline, structure, and service. It may seem worlds apart from photography, but for Mike, the connection was clear. Both demanded precision under pressure. Both required presence. Both asked: What really matters in this moment? It was during long firehouse shifts that another question began to take shape: What would it look like to build a life by design? That question led to real estate—and eventually, to financial freedom. Through short-term rentals, Mike and his wife Caroline built a portfolio that allowed them to leave traditional work behind and step fully into a life of intentional living. Today, Mike and Caroline co-host The Our Family Invests Podcast and lead a platform that helps families learn, share, and grow through smart investing. They call Maui home but spend several months each year traveling, learning, and building their legacy. For Mike, photography was just the beginning of a lifelong journey shaped by curiosity, creativity, and the courage to keep evolving.
