NJ Barker first started writing books when he was eight, but he took his time before completing his first thriller some forty years later. He studied Pure Mathematics (truly a branch of the arts) at Warwick University and law at The College of Law before building a career in personal tax. In 2019 he retired to focus on his passion. As it turned out, this wasn’t maths (surprised?) or tax (shocked?) but writing fiction. He is a graduate of the Faber Academy and is drawn to stories where people are forced to follow someone else’s rules or face the consequences. His short story , The Catastrophe Test, is an introduction to both his writing and the star of that story, Kennedy Logan. He has recently published The Moral Authority, the first full-length Kennedy Logan thriller, and is currently writing book two. He has also just published his full-length debut thriller, The Honesty Index. The opening of The Honesty Index was long-listed by Jericho Writers in their Friday Night Live competition and the full book got to a final acquisition meeting at a Big Five publisher. NJ Barker is also working hard on writing more standalone thrillers. He lives in Kent together with his wife, son and their two cocker spaniels.
