With many of his friends leaving Nigeria, Obi unwittingly became a resource for how to transition successfully from a communal culture, to a more individualistic one—such as the USA. He often found himself calling on his American experiences—in workplaces, schools and communities—to assist his friends with their transition. This book was born of the advice and stories that came to live on his lips. He's drawn on his writing and editing expertise, his experiments with success and his firm belief that these methods of success can be duplicated with the right discipline. Obi is also an engineer with an aerospace company and serves as president of the Iowa chapter of the International Council of Systems Engineers. Additionally, he runs “The Odenigbo Grant”—which assists students and small business owners in Nigeria with grants to pursue their dreams. Proceeds from this book go to that grant.
