P.S. Adair writes grief-related fiction for readers who need a good cry. Keep the tissue box nearby. Read today, starting with "Bethany's Last Words" or the collection of six stories, "Love Persevering." __________________________________________________________________________________________ P.S. Adair is a pseudonym used by Rev. Patrick Riecke. There are three symbols in this pen name, and one practical reason for its use. P.S. are Rev. Riecke's first two initials--Patrick Shawn Riecke. He's not Irish, but he likes it when people think that he is. P.S. is shorthand for "Post-Script." If it is included, the most important part of any correspondence is the P.S. It is the secret at the end--the cipher for the whole letter. Our eyes are magnetically drawn to the P.S. Like mortality, death, and grief, the P.S. can provide a lens that revises our perspectives. Adair was the middle name of Rev. Riecke's uncle. He never met Robin Adair. Robin died many years before Riecke was born. Robin was a healthy baby when he was born. Mrs. Riecke (Patrick's mom) remembers her little brother crawling around their home when he was six months old. Once he crawled behind the couch and could not get out. Giggling, she lifted the couch so he could be retrieved. Sadly, before he was a year old, he began convulsing for an unknown reason. The family took him to the hospital. Mrs. Riecke remembers the doctor using an implement called an electric needle. Afterward, when she entered Robin's room, blood was splattered around the baby. Robin's eyes would not focus. Life got harder for the whole family after that. Robin was often hospitalized and required constant care. Robin was twelve years old when he died. Mrs. Riecke recalls, "One night he had a cold. The next morning, he was dead." Robin's life and death were part of Rev. Riecke's foundational life story--a story that never left him. That's one reason why stories like those included in the Post-Script Book series are so important to him, personally.
