Of the top two fears with which most humans identify (public speaking and death), Patty embraces both topics. She logs decades of public speaking experience and is a sought-after industry leader, speaker, trainer and course-creator in the end-of-life space. When Patty spent every day from diagnosis to death with her dear friend, Rona, it was Rona’s death that changed Patty’s life. She became a hospice volunteer, community educator, and founded a death literacy training company. Before Rona died, she gave Patty the title she uses today..."President of Possibility". During her time training aspiring end-of-life doulas, Patty noticed a common hurdle. Many talented individuals were held back by public speaking anxiety, a wedge that prevented them from effectively communicating their valuable and most needed skills. Patty understood this anxiety all too well; she'd experienced the same fear early in her career, which impacted her opportunities and growth. Believing everyone has a vital message that is "dying to be heard," Patty champions the mastery of public speaking. She's seen that unaddressed speaking anxiety obstructs the expression of our most profound and creative thoughts. When this happens, we lose the potential of what could be, and for Patty, there's no greater place than “possibility." Stay tuned for a series of books that delve into the topics of death, dying, grief and loss. By harnessing the transformative power of open and real conversation around these subjects, Patty believes we can shift the death experience from one of ONLY sadness, fear and overwhelm, to that of peace, meaning, connection and even a bit of awe. As a well-known national figure in the death awareness and literacy movement, Patty was one of seven founders of NEDA (National End-of-Life Doula Alliance) now serving almost 1500 members. She was also chosen as a charter member for the End-of-Life Doula Council with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. She founded Teaching Transitions, a hospice training organization, and Doing Death Differently focused on end-of-life doula training. LifePath Learners is now the umbrella company for Patty's offerrings which addresses all of life's most important passages from mid-life to death. Her book(s) are published with Possibilities Press.
