R.S. CURTIS Novelist, Author, Inventor, Poet, Father, Grandfather & Dandyman R.S. Curtis Novelist & Author, orthopedic surgeon, and acclaimed inventor, writes books, screenplays, & short stories about the redemptive power of love. His collection of poetry reflects a variety of themes throughout his life. R.S. Curtis received his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (UTSW). He practiced Orthopedic Surgery as a partner of the W.B. Memorial Carell Clinic in Dallas, Texas for over forty years. During that time, he also served as Associate Clinical Professor at UTSW. R.S. Curtis writes fiction novels with companion screenplays, short stories, medical articles and a collection of poetry. He has written eight novels (see bibliography) to date, self-publishing his first book “Once in A Blue Moon” with Simon & Schuster in 2019. Since then, he continues to publish exclusively with Amazon’s Kindle Direct (KDP) and Audible (ACX). R.S. Curtis is a lifelong Colorado enthusiast, which has influenced his themes and writings. He lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife Marty, spending time with his adult children, Collin and Allison, two grandchildren and four grand-dogs. He is active in multiple philanthropic organizations and serves on the Administrative Board of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and is a founding member of Dallas’ Katy Trail Board of Directors. AWARDS, RECOGNITIONS & ORGANIZATIONS Austin Film Festival, Producer’s Circle, Top Tier 2nd Read, 2015 “A Football Story, Paradise Divide & Hampton’s Annie” Charlestown Family Film Festival Year, Top Ten Finalist, 2017 “Once In A Blue Moon” A member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons National Association of Spinal Surgeons (NASS) Active Member of Multiple Medical Societies BIBLIOGRAPHY “Once In A Blue Moon” A superhuman young man (he’s a shape-shifting Bigfoot) about to marry the wrong superhuman young woman (she’s a shape-shifting Bigfoot, too) to become the head of his clan discovers the human girl he really loves has come back to town with problems of her own. “A Football Story” An under motivated NCAA infractions officer comes to Dallas at Christmas time to view a routine 1988 post probation signing at a Methodist university football powerhouse and is forced into a high stakes struggle with an unscrupulous, ex- US senator university board chairman. “Paradise Divide” A ranger recon army sergeant returns to his home in the Rockies following the apparent suicide of his father and ends up in a fight that pits his old hunting bow against the villain’s modern compound. “Christmas Angel” In three short stories, CHRISTMAS ANGEL chronicles the life-altering adventures of a physician with his light-skinned, electric-haired, blue-eyed African American guardian who shows the doctor who he was in the past, who he is in the present, and who he could be in the future. “Restoration of Wood” A self-absorbed Anglo Austin divorce lawyer gets a second chance at life when the teenage daughter he knows nothing about shows up and forces him to rethink his unresolved relationship with the girl’s Hispanic mother. “Davids Valley” A disaffected young surgeon returns, during the racially conflicted sixties, to his hometown in rural Oklahoma to visit his dying mother on Mother’s Day and finds himself under siege from the town’s mayor bent upon revenge and his destruction. “Fortnight” A Charlestown high school star baseball pitcher, who struggles with the recent death of his father, pushes away from life after his racial prejudice surfaces on the mound but gets pulled back in by his mother’s wish which takes him back in time where, to return, he must remember who he once was. “Hampton’s Annie” A female New York Vaudevillian seeks revenge for the civil war death of her father plots to kill the man responsible but falls in love with him instead. The story takes place in the arena of the coming of the railroad to Aspen, Colorado in 1882.
