As one gets older, it becomes increasingly difficult to summate life into a short biographical blurb. There have been far too many experiences in the last thirteen years since I first put pen to page that have shaped who I am as a person and as a writer. And far too many before that. I could tell you where I was born (North Carolina). I could tell you where I've lived (in practically every state when I lived in an RV for two years). I could tell you where I live now (Iowa). But none of those things really tells you who I am, and I'm assuming that's why you're here, reading this. Writing offers many enjoyments, one of which is the story, which comes out of me regularly to my surprise, sometimes to my embarrassment, and often to my delight. The characters, the places, the plots; they're all discoveries, and I enjoy every moment of them. But that wouldn't be enough to keep me. I'm the mother of six children and wife to a man who never stops innovating and moving. The time I have for simple delights is limited. Of all the things I could choose to do with my "spare time", why write? There's a greater, more spirit-stretching reason. Francis Bacon touches upon this truth: "Writing maketh an exact man." Or in my case, woman. I write because it helps me discover who I really was, who I really am, and who I really will be. Discovering that there is more to ourselves than we first thought, that we have more inside us than we had fathomed, is an addicting state of being. And that's who I am, who I strive to be every day: someone on the cusp of discovery. Writing isn't an option. It's a way of life for me. Like religion. So when you read my books, you are witnessing the journey. You're watching me discover something about myself and my place in the world. I hope you'll stick around. I have so much more to learn.
