Randy was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. At seventeen he was kicked out of his parents’ house to live on the streets. At nineteen, he was fed up with living on the streets of Ottawa and hitch hiked across the country to Vancouver British Columbia in the hopes of the freedom it promised. Over the next five years he would travel back and forth from Vancouver to Ottawa twenty-five times, sometimes by Greyhound, but mostly hitch hiking and once on the back of a train. In 1987, he finally chose to stay in Vancouver permanently. There, he remained on the streets where his persona and reputation as Bear grew. Besides his reputation as Bear growing, so too did his appetite for drugs and alcohol, nearly costing him his life on several occasions. In 1992, alongside his partner in crime and fiancé Natalie, they were able to quit their drug addiction. The murder of his fiancé on Valentine’s Day three years later by some lunatic, would change his life forever. Since then, Randy has been married and divorced twice. He has one child from each who are now both adults. After a near death health crisis in 2010, Randy was hospitalized for five months. Four months after his release from the hospital he began to experience some vision trouble. He underwent thirteen surgeries over eighteen months to correct his vision loss, but to no avail. Today, Randy is now legally blind. In 2013, Blind Ambitions, his first book of poetry was self-published, and to date he has published eight more. He continues to write poetry and is now trying his hand at writing fiction. Besides writing, Randy enjoys blending his own spices, creating hot sauces, and podcasting. His podcast, Between the Lines, is dedicated to showcasing lesser-known Canadian authors and writers. It can be found on Spotify, Google podcast and on his website. For the last fifteen years Randy has lived in a small town in central Alberta, Canada. Sox, a tuxedo cat, is his current roommate.
