Rex Burgdorfer and Jordan Shields are co-managing partners of Juniper Advisory, a specialized investment banking firm focussed on health system mergers and acquisitions. Over the last 30 years, Juniper and its founders have advised on many of the larger, more noteworthy business combination transactions shaping the hospital industry. The team has assisted several hundred nonprofit leaders from Alaska to Florida, representing all ownership forms and sizes, to assess a range of strategic partnership alternatives. Burgdorfer and Shields have assisted faith-based, community, and local-Government clients on transactions involving: Beaumont, The Cleveland Clinic, Dartmouth Hitchcock, Duke LifePoint, Jefferson, Northwestern, Mercy, ProMedica, SCL, Sentara, Spectrum, UnityPoint, among others. Burgdorfer joined the firm in 2009 from Kellogg and Morgan Stanley. Shields joined the firm in 2011 from Navigant, Kellogg, and Bowdoin College. Shields is active with the Theatre of Chicago, Admiral at the Lake, and Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival. The pair write and speak regularly on the ownership structure and trends within the acute-care industry.
