Rodney Dietert, Ph.D., is Professor of Immunotoxicology at Cornell University. For more than 35 years, he has researched the effects of environment factors (e.g, chemicals, drugs, stress, and infectious agents) on the developing immune system. More recently, he turned his focus to the the microbiome and it's critical role in human health. This experience has given him a novel perspective on the benefits of protecting the biological systems that most directly affect the health of our children. Often aided by his talented co-author wife, Rodney has prepared health-related books and articles of value for both general and technical audiences. While serving as Director of Cornell's Program on Breast Cancer and Environmental Risk Factors as well as its toxicology institute, Rodney gained valuable public health experience as well as a specific vision for reducing the risk of chronic diseases. He is an international speaker, university teacher, and workshop leader with audiences running the gamut from pre-college students to Rotary Club members to international scientific conference attendees. Rodney recently appeared in the award-winning 2014 documentary movie on the microbiome titled: Microbirth. When he takes a break from science, Rodney is an equally avid writer of books and articles on creative problems solving, use of contemplative tools in education, Scottish history, goldsmithing and antique silver. His lives in Lansing, NY and when he is not writing or lecturing about health, creative thinking, or history, you are likely to find him swing dancing to live music.
