Sandy Shaw, a native of Wadena, Minnesota, had a turbulent childhood. Kidnapped back and forth numerous times between her parents, she finally settled in Las Vegas with her mother at the age of eight. She was a straight-A student until her life was turned upside down when she witnessed a triple homicide in a friend’s home in eighth grade. Two years later, when an adult began stalking her and the police would do nothing, she asked a childhood friend for help. The friend was supposed to intimidate the stalker, but instead brought a gun to the confrontation and murdered him. Sandy was dragged into it, becoming known as the “Show and Tell Killer,” and convicted on the strength of perjured testimony and hidden evidence. Sentenced to two life terms without parole at just fifteen years old, she was the youngest female ever incarcerated in a Nevada prison. Sandy clung to the hope she would one day clear her name and gain freedom. She pursued her education in prison and became a voracious reader. While incarcerated, after receiving her GED, she earned an Associate of Arts degree then an Associate of General Studies degree, followed by a business certificate, all from Western Nevada College. She taught computer classes as a teacher’s assistant to other inmates and became heavily involved in training rescued animals in a prison program known as “Pets on Parole.” Since her release in 2007, Sandy has been gainfully employed as a dispatcher for a Las Vegas based company and was eventually promoted to the head of the dispatch department. Though, finally in June of 2022, hope came through. Thirty-five years after the crime, the Nevada Board of Pardons voted unanimously to an unconditional pardon and voided her original convictions. She is now ready to tell her story.
