Stephen Dau was born and raised in Pennsylvania. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, he moved to Paris to attend graduate school, then on to a career in post-war reconstruction and international development that took him to Sarajevo, Serbia and Albania. Returning to the US, he studied creative writing at Johns Hopkins University and at Bennington College, where he received an MFA. He lives in Brussels, where he continues to work and report on the situation of refugees and migrants for the Los Angeles Review of Books. His work has also appeared in Ploughshares, McSweeney's, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, on MSNBC, and elsewhere. Visit him at www.stephendau.com.
