Since retiring from the USAR, 12th Special Forces Group in 1994 as a major I have been actively supporting the Hmong communities around the country. I have been married to my wife Yasuko for 50 years who I met on Okinawa in 1968 shortly before going to Vietnam with the Studies and Observations Group (SOG). After returning to Okinawa I asked Yasuko to marry me. She said no! Not until you get out of Special Forces and have a job. In 1969, I took the offer to join the US Agency for International Development(USAID) as a public health adviser in Laos. I was a Special Forces trained medic. I was discharged from active duty, returned to Chicago where it took six months for the USAID to complete the hiring process. I stopped on Okinawa on my way to Laos and asked Yasuko if she would now marry me. This time she said yes! After six months in Laos I returned to Okinawa and brought Yasuko to Vientiane where we were married. Our son Tom was born in Laos. After 5 1/2 years returning from Laos in May 1975 I was given a "pink slip" by USAID. I returned to college in Chicago and immediately after graduation started a 38 year career in medical equipment and pharmaceutical sales and manufacturing. The first 3 years I was responsible for marketing and sales in 14 countries of Asia. My book was meant to tell my story of once top secret operations with the Special Forces and the USAID to family and friends to include my seven year old granddaughter Phillipa.
