Steven Smith was born in Alloa, Scotland, way back in 1951. He was an average student, who preferred sport. At 17, he played for Clackmannan County Cricket Club, and also moved on to rugby, at Alloa Rugby Football Club. Working as a project engineer, he moved around the UK, and in 1975 he moved to South Africa. He worked on a project for Iscor, a steel company in Vanderbijlpark. In 1986 he moved to Richards Bay to start his owm business in construction engineering. Several businesses followed, including a Casino. Married to Dorrit in 1988, they have two sons, Gregory, and Antony, both excellent sportsmen. In 2012, the family moved to Ballito, in KZN, where they still live. He enjoys travel, and good food. He hopes his books reflect a bit of adventure, that his life has brought him.
