Steven Soifer, Ph.D., LCSW-C (MD) is Professor at the Department of Social Work at the University of Mississippi. He has expertise in a wide array of social welfare, social policy, community development and clinical areas with diverse populations. He has taught courses on community economic development, community organizing, social policy, macro practice, diversity, and cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) among others. Dr. Soifer has published numerous books, book chapters, articles and commentaries on community development; effective models and assessment of cooperatives, land trusts, the housing and banking markets; policy interventions at the local, state, national, and international levels; and CBT treatment for social phobia. He has expertise in program assessment and evaluation, as evidenced by the numerous projects and grants in which he has participated. Most notably, he has conducted independent audits on housing, and was awarded a $130,000 grant to study affordable housing in Baltimore. Dr. Soifer is an early adopter of innovative technologies, which he utilizes in his research, teaching and social service activity. He co-founded and has been the CEO of the International Paruresis Association (IPA) since 1996, President of the American Restroom Association, and Co-Director of the Shy Bladder Center. Under his leadership, IPA has established a national and international presence through best practices in resource acquisition, stewardship, and capacity expansion.
